how can we manage bio-aerosols in the dental environment
A
- monitor heat, ventilation, and air-conditioning
- clean air filtration system frequently
- use proper oral and lab evacuation and ventilation techniques during bio-aerosol producing procedures
- use vacuum dust collection system during dust-producing lab procedures
- use HVE during all intraoral procedures that produce aerosols
- use rubber dams
- use pre-procedural mouth rinse
- conduct pre-procedural biofilm removal through coronal polishing, brushing and flossing
- wear appropriate PPE, ie. masks, protective clothing, proper eyewear and face shields, gloves
- keep all containers tightly covered
- pour chemicals rather than spraying
- use lids on ultrasonic cleaners and other chemical cleaners
