An observer can identify or observe a change
What is a syndrome?
Collection of signs and symptoms of a disease process
What is incidence?
Number of new cases in a period of time
What is prevalence?
Number of people with a disease or condition in a period of time - number of new cases
What is primary prevention?
Prevent disease from occurring by reducing risk factors
What is secondary prevention?
Disease detected when asymptomatic and cure can be attained - decrease duration of illness (ex: Pap Smear)
What is tertiary prevention?
Interventions to prevent further problems, reduce complications, promote restoration of function (ex: chemotherapy?)
