What are some signs of dehydration?
- Depressed fontanels (soft spots on head)
- Less or no wet diapers in a time period
- Nasal or oral mucosa will be dry
- Infant or child is crying but produces no tears
- Delayed capillary refill
What is insufflator-exsufflator (cough assist)?
This device creates a positive pressure to increase the FRC and then creates neagtive pressure to mimic a cough.
Beneficial in patients with neuromuscular weakness who have a weak ineffective cough
What are some contraindications to ACT?
- pneumothorax
- frank hemoptysis
- foriegn body aspiration
How does continuous neb work?
- gives 5-20mg for refractory bronchospasm
- Monitor for cardiac side effects and hypokalemia
- Can be given in conjunction with heliox therapy
