What is UVC (umbilical venous catheter) used for?
medication and fluid administration
Where shouls UAC be positioned?
6-8 thoracic verterbrae OR 3-4 lumbar (L3-L4)
Where should NGT be placed?
In stomach
should not appear in bronchus
FB aspiration will most likely enter where?
right main-stem
How will FB aspiration appear on CXR?
hyperinflation
What should be used to remobe foreign body?
rigid bronch
What determines eligibility for home care?
- Home caregivers must be present, willing and have the ability to care for patient
- Patient must be stable
Before discharging patient with a trach what must happen?
- At least 2 caregivers must be trained
- Caregives will learn to suction, clean, and change trach
- Must be able to recognize and respond to emergency situations
- Caregivers should be comfortable with all home helath equipment
- Rooming-in may be necessary
Before discharging patient with a vent what must happen?
- At least 2 caregivers should be triained
- Vent selction should be portable, user-friendly, and have reliable alarms. Controls and settings should be mostly locked
- Back-up batteries shuld be available in case of malfunction
- Ambu-bag should always be with pt
***Other supplies: extra vent circuits, humidification, suctioning, O2 and monitoring.
How it works
What is apnea/bradycardia monitoring?
- Non-invasive portable monitoring for HR and RR.
- Alerts caregivers of abnormalities with alarm
May be necessary for which patients:
Apnea/bradycardia monitoring?
- Infants with apneic episodes reulting in bradycardia
- Previous ALTE
- Infant with positive pertussis culture
- Infants with GERD (occurs w/patients apnea and brady)
- Neurological and metabolic disorders
- Infant where 2 or more siblings have died from SIDS
