General Anatomy And Physiology Flashcards
Anatomy
The study of the shape and structures of the human body. It is naming of the body parts.
Physiology
The study of the body function, or how all the parts work together.
Anatomical position
The body standing erect with the feet together and the arms hanging at the side with the palms facing forward.
Sagittal plane
A vertical plane the divides the body from top to bottom and then to left and right section
Frontal plane/coronal
Divides the body into anterior/venture, front and posterior/dorsal, back portions
Horizontal plane/transverse
Divides the body into superior/upper an inferior/lower portions
Cells
The building blocks of every living thing. Cells carry out the chemical activities to sustain life.
Differentiation
The term for specialization of cells
Tissues
Are millions of cells with the same general structure and function working together to perform a specific function for the body.
Cytoplasm
Gelatinous fluid inside the cell. Cytoplasm contains organelles.
Epithelial tissue/Skin
Internal body surfaces
Lining tissue of the mouth, intestines
Connective tissue
Adipose, tendons, and ligaments
Nerve tissue
Brain, spinal cord, and nerves
Muscle
Voluntary muscle/arms and legs
Involuntary muscle/lungs, and testing, and stomach
Organs
Foreign one several types of tissues become a group. Organs perform a single function.
Body systems
Composed of a group of organs working together to perform a major function.
Body cavity
Space in the body that is line by a membrane and contain structures such as organs.
Dorsal
The back of the body
Ventral
The front of the body
The integumentary system
Forms the external body covering.
Protects deeper tissue from injury.
Synthesizes vitamin D.
Skeletal system
Protects and supports body organs.
Provides a framework the muscles used to cause movement.
Forms blood cells inside long bones.
Stores minerals.
Muscular system
Allows manipulation of the environment, locomotion, and facial expression.
Maintains posture.
Produces heat.
Nervous system
Control systems of the body quickly.
Response internal and external changes by aggravating appropriate muscles and glands.
Endocrine system
Secretes hormones we are glands to regulate growth, reproduction, and nutrient used by body cells
Cardiovascular system
Transportable through blood vessels.
Carries oxygen, carbon dioxide, nutrients, and waste in the blood cells.
Uses a hard to pump blood through the blood vessels.
