General Anatomy Flashcards
What is the Carlyle index?
The ratio of limb length to overall height. This works for both women and men
What is the Carlyle index for humeral length?
AC to lateral epicondyle = 0.19x body height
What is the Carlyle index for forearm length?
Lateral epicondyle to thumb tip = 0.21x body height
Define synergist
“helpers”
-not as efficient as creating the movement, but they either help or could do it if the prime mover was “benched”
Define antagonist
-“opposition to the movement”
Define active insufficiency
the part of ROM where the muscle is no longer efficient or has a mechanical advantage
Define passive insufficiency
- lack of ROM due to tightness
- can’t get passed a certain point
Myotome Testing: C5 - T1
C5 - Elbow Flexors C6 - Wrist extensors C7 - elbow extensors C8 - Finger flexors T1 - Hand intrinsics (interossei - 'PAD' and 'DAB')
What are the sensory testing ‘Key areas’ for C3-T1?
C3 - just superior to the mid clavicle
C4 - skin over the AC joint
C5 - lateral fibers of the deltoid (mid-way)
C6 - dorsum of thumb
C7 - middle finger (radial aspect)
C8 - Ring finger ulnar aspect (maybe little finger)
T1 - skin over medial epicondyle of humerus
What nerve goes through the carpal tunnel?
median n
During swing phase of the gait cycle, what muscles are active to achieve dorsiflexion?
Anterior tibialis, extensor hallucis longus, extensor digitorum longus, fibularis (peronous) tertius, extensor digitorum longus
What muscles make up the erector spinae muscles?
“I Love Sue”
Iliocostalis
Longissimus
Spinalis
What muscles make up the “snuff box”?
From medial to radial:
Extensor pollicis longus
Extensor pollicis brevis
Abductor pollicis longus (APL)
