General Abdomen Flashcards
Name tumors associated with MEN multiple endocrine neoplasic syndrome
Pituitary Adenoma, parathyroid Adenoma, medullary thyroid carcinoma, panc islet cell tumor, phenochromocytoma
Retroperitoneal structures
Kidneys and ureters, adrenal glands, IVC, aorta, pancreas, parts of duodenum, asc and desc colon, prostate, lymph nodes, uterus, bladder
AIDs patients
Hepatomegaly, splenomegaly, lymphadenopathy, hyperechoic liver and renal parenchyma, liver abscess, met Kaposi Sarcoma, acute cholecystitis
Crus of diaphragm is ___ to aorta, ____ to celiac axis, _____ to IVC, ___ & ___ to adrenal glands
Ant to aorta
Sup to celiac axis
Post to ivc
Medial and post to adrenals
Abscess
Complex collection, cystic and solid, debri, septations, gas, irregular thick borders, post enhancement
Fever, leukocytosis
Hematomas
Echogenic at first, anechoic later on. Long standing hematomas may have calcifications
Arterio-venous shunt
Abnormal connection between an artery and a vein.
May present as bruit or thrill and hypertension, cardiomegaly, and heart failure
Most caused by trauma. Can also be caused from surgery, biopsy, inflammation, or neoplasm. May be congenital.
Artery side will have low resistance, vein will be pulsatile aka arterialized venous waveform
Baker’s Cyst
Collection of synovial fluid found in the popliteal fossa
Commonly located medial in the fossa
Caused by trauma, rheumatoid arthritis. May become infected or compress the pop vein causing calf swelling.
Acceleration time
Time from beginning of systoli to initial peak velocity
Acceleration index
Dividing acceleration slope by transmitted frequency
Duodenum
1st part: transverse oriented. Originated from pylorus. Cbd and GDA run post to it.
2nd: long oriented. Lateral to panc head.
3rd: transverse. Between SMA and aorta.
4th: long. Left of aorta. Terminates at jejunum.
Normal lymph node length
< 1 cm
2 structures post to ivc
Rt renal artery, rt adrenal gland
2 structures post to 1st part of duodenum
Cbd GDA
Structure post to 3rd part of duodenum
Aorta
