General Flashcards
2 major divisions
**noninfectious (primary/autoimmune)
infectious
Infectious causes of vasculitis
- fungi (aspergillus)
- bacteria (pseudomonas)
- virus (cytomegalovirus)
infectious vasculitits may be called…
mycotic aneurysm
regardless of cause of infection
Causes of Primary vasculitis
- cell-mediated response (T-cells, macrophages, cytokines) to vascular antigens (i.e. elastic lamina) when dendritic cells go haywire
- immune-complex deposition–> inflammation mediated by complement, neutrophils, lysosomal enzymes, free radicals
- antibody-mediated attack
- Unknown
Signs and symptoms
fever

**“Palpable purpura”
…..
livedo reticularis
MANY more nonspecific signs and some specific signs
livedo reticularis
network-pattern purplish discoloration of skin due to dilatation of blood vessels
What can cause a FUO (fever of unknown origin)?
Vasculitis
Infective Endocarditits
What are taken into consideration for making diagnosis of vasculitis besides clinical presentation?
distribution of organ involvement histopathological features (biopsy)
Most common types of Vasculitis
Just vasculitis
Hypersensitivity angiitis
Temporal arteritis
Less common types of Vasculitis
infectious Wegener's granulomatosis Henoch-Schonlein purpura Microscopic polyarteritis polyarteritis nodosa
