What is Milgram’s agency theory?
It is a way of explaining obedience.
What does autonomous and agentic state mean?
Autonomous- use your free will.
Agentic - act on behalf of someone else.
What is moral strain and how does it happen?
Moral strain is when you are given an order which goes against your conscience and it links to destructive obedience.
*It includes denial of responsibility.
What are individual differences?
Refers to how people have different identities such as culture,age and gender identity.
What is personality?
Someone’s unique and stable response to specific situations and responding in a way others don’t.
How does authoritarian personality link to Milgram’s study?
Milgram’s participants were interviewed straight after and were questioned to see if personality lead to their obedience or not.
What is internal locus of control?
Where someone thinks they’re in control of their own actions and behaviour as they caused it.
What is locus of control?
Where someone believes what happens to the, comes from outside their control and if so they’d feel stressed out.
What effects does personality have on obedience?
Milgram’s used a lot of participants and found a lot of obedience and some evidence that authoritarian personality was obedient.
What effects does gender have in obedience?
Milgram’s study with female participants doesn’t test gender enough yet females showed more distress than men.
What does Milgram’s study show about personality?
It shows it doesn’t have a lot to do with following obedience.
What did some studies show about gender and obedience?
Milgram - No difference
Kilham and Klein - 40% of males and 16% of females were obedient
Blass - Metro analysis showed no gender difference
Milgram (1974) - High anxiety for women
What is the definition of social impact theory?
Any individual thoughts, feelings or behaviour that is exerted by the real,implied or imagined presence or actions of others.
