General Flashcards
Manual flight:
- PF flies the aircraft manually and will direct PM to make all necessary FCU selections.
- PM should make selections in response to ATC clearances automatically.
- Flight directors/flight path directors shall be used for all phases of flight except when flying a visual approach or visual descent segment of a non precision or circling approach or when flying without flight directors. In this case FPV (bird) shall be used.
- Hand flying shall only be practiced at those airfields which have VMC conditions and low workload.
Hand flying without flight directors/auto thrust is permitted under the following conditions:
F/Ds off OR Auto thrust off
- Descent at or below 10 000ft
- Day VMC (clear of cloud)
- Planned ILS
F/Ds off AND/OR Auto thrust off
- Day or night
- Established LOC (ILS)
- Ceiling is equal to or greater than 1000ft
- Visibility is equal to or greater than 5km
- X/wind equal to or less than 15kts (10kts SO’s)
FCU altitude selections:
Normally all altitude restrictions shall be set in the FCU window.
Notwithstanding the following exceptions are permitted:
- When in a managed vertical mode CLB/DES) is in use during a published departure/arrival procedure from the FMS database, the cleared level/altitude shall be set.
- When managed vertical mode (FINAL APP) is in use during a published non ILS approach which has been selected from the database, the missed approach altitude shall be set after the engagement of FINAL APP.
- When a selected vertical mode (VS/FPA) is in use during a published non ILS approach, the MAP altitude shall normally be set after passing the FAF, and only when below the MAP altitude.
- MDA/DA shall not be set in the FCU window.
The use of a selected vertical mode will remove the protection provided by:
Any active managed vertical mode and result in any procedural altitudes being violated.
When cleared for an approach by ATC, but not yet on a published segment of the approach, the last assigned ATC altitude shall be maintained:
Until established on a published segment of that approach.
In order to cover the possibility of an incapacitation, the PM shall:
Place their hand near the side stick during critical phases of flight, ready to take priority.
PM shall place their feet lightly on the rudder pedals, clear of the brakes, at all times below circuit altitude to cover incapacitation.
MAX Autobrake shall be set for takeoff and LO/MED for landing.
When taking into account the setting for landing the following shall be considered:
- Landing weight
- Environmental conditions
- Rwy conditions
- Runway length
- Runway turnoff point
- Aircraft configuration
The before takeoff checklist shall be repeated when:
There is a change to aircraft configuration, T/O data, or runway.
The approach checklist shall be repeated when:
There is a change of runway or approach.
Unattended Aircraft.
If all members of an operating crew temporarily leave an aircraft unattended for any period of time, upon return to the aircraft the crew shall ensure:
- A flight deck security check is completed
- Flight deck systems and emergency equipment are checked in accordance with SOPs, even if they were performed previously.
AIRCRAFT PUSHBACK AND TOWING.
An ATC clearance shall not:
Be requested during pushback.
If ATC call with a clearance they should be told to standby.
Is the use of reverse thrust permitted during pushback?
No.
When may the ground engineer be cleared to disconnect?
When the engine start is complete (AVAIL memo displayed) and the N/W STEER DISCONNECT is displayed.
When may the parking brake be released for commencement of taxi?
- Ground crew clear signal received
- After start checklist completed
- PM has confirmed ‘clear’
- ATC clearance has been received
Before entering the runway:
The correct runway and departure point shall be identified and confirmed by both pilots by reference to signs and/or markings.
