enlargement of the lymph nodes
adenopathy
to move from place to place, typically in relation to a patient’s ability to walk on his/her own (note: this has nothing to do with ambulance)
ambulate
an abnormal widening or ballooning of a portion of a blood vessel due to weakness in the vessel wall. These commonly occur in the brain, the abdomen, and the aorta (as it exits the heart)
aneurysm
the areas of the back that are over the kidneys; (blank) tenderness on exam can indicate kidney infection. The abbreviation can also be used for stroke, however, the two can be distinguished with context such as diagnosis vs. PE finding
costovertebral angle (CVA)
the abnormal twisting of a bodily organ on its own axis, most commonly the ovary and testicle
torsion
medical term for muscle pain
myalgia (-algia is a suffix meaning pain)
a chronic general appearance or state characterized by loss of weight, muscle atrophy, fatigue, weakness, and significant loss of appetite in someone who is not actively trying to lose weight; typically seen in patients with any degenerative/wasting disease such as cancer or AIDS
cachectic
medical term for painful cramps during menstruation
dysmenorrhea
medical term for pain experienced during sexual intercourse
dyspareunia
irreversible death of cells/tissues; areas often appear black in color
necrosis
