1

Q

What is methylation

A

The addition of a methyl group to the histone tail to prevent transcription by blocking RNA polymerase access to the promoter. Leads to chromosome condensation forming heterochromatin

Q

What is epigentic inheritance

A

The inheritance of traits transmitted by mechanisms that do not involve the nucleotide sequence. Chromosome modifications are passed on but can be reversed. Most epigenetuc tags are removed during embryo development
