+ COUNTERPOINT
ZOSULS ET AL looked at onset gender identity .longitudinal study,82 kids.
measured when kids labelled themselves boy/girl.Found they did this immediately when they could communicate (19months) .SUGGESTING children acquire gender identity before this but not able 2 communicate.
+

Cultural differences
Cherry
Gender schema influences what is culturally acceptable gender behaviour. A society that does not have very strict gender roles is more likely to have gender fluid children. Halverson’s theory can explain how schema are transmitted between members. Explains cultural differences.
Timing
Disagreement on when stereotypes begin to form. Kohlberg, children must reach constancy first before gender appropriate behaviour. . Halverson, children show gender appropriate behaviour shortly after identity.
