Campaigning for equality between the sexes, leading to an increase in women’s rights to work, own property, divorce, education ect., women are now more ambitious and wish to study to gain careers

What did McRobbie say?

A

She is a liberal feminist who compared magazines in the 1970s and 1990s.
Found that the images in the 70’s shown women as wives and mothers, emphisising the importaance of being marries and being a home maker
Where as in the 90s she found images that shown women as independent, assertive and strong reflecting the changing attitudes towards women due to feminism

What is the external Factor ‘Girls changing ambitions’?

A

Key sociologist Sharpe: found that their ambitious in the 1970s were to marry and have children and saw their future in terms of a domestic role.
However in the 1990s, the girls priorities had changes to career and wanting to be independent

What is the external factor ‘changes in the family’?

A

Women are now not expected to stay at home and look after children as there are many family types across modern society. Societal veiws have changed, there are lone parent families, same sex parents ect., this allows women to choose to work. There are now shared/equal conjugal roles

What is the external Factors in ‘Changes in women’s employement’?

A

Increase in divorce, cohabitation and decaresein marriage, less children ect. These changes have meant more women working, in turn this means more girls seeing working women as role models and more focus on education
Changes in the law have improved the position of working women, for example the Equal Pay act (1970) and the Sex Discrimination Act (1975)
