Gender Bias: Evaluate Flashcards
Feminist psychology:
Eagly (1978)
We should use evidence that women may be inferior to provide women with greater support. acknowledges that women may be less effective leaders than men but this should be used to set up training programmes to help women become better leaders.
Bias in research methods:
Rosenthal (1966)
found that male experimenters are more pleasant and friendly towards female participants resulting in males appearing to perform less well on tasks.
Reverse Alpha Bias:
Cornwell et al. (2013)
Theories should show differences between men and women but emphasise the value of women. e.g women are better at learning because they’re more attentive and organised
Mustin and Marecek (1988)
Avoiding a beta bias:
they point out that arguing for equality between men and women draws attention away from women’s special needs such as equal parental leave ignores the demands of pregnancy i.e. childbirth, breastfeeding etc
