solution to gender bias - relfexivity
modern reserchers - acknowlegde the effect of their own values and assumptions on the nature of their work this is reflexivity
they don’t see gender bias as a threat tot he integrity of their work - embrace it as a part of the research process
e.g Dambrin and Lambert - study the lack of women in executive positions and in accountancy firms, the reflect on the fact that their gender related experiences influenced their reading of events
by being reflexive it can prevent people from using research to justify and perpetuate harmful stereotypes and prejudices
consequence of gender - institutional sexism
lack of women in senior research institutiions in psychology means that female concerns are not reflected in the research questions asked.
male researchers are more likely to have their research published + and studies finding gender differences are more likely to be put in articles than ones that do not
lab experiments - supposed to be the pinnacle of scientific enquiry in psychology may disadvantage women because female pps are put in an inequitable relationship with the researcher who can label them as unreasonable and irrational or unable to do complex tasks
psych may be guilty of supporting a form of institutional sexism that created beta bias in theory and research
