consequence of culture bias - Asch and Milgram’s studies
most influential studies in psychology are culturally biased
asch + milgram’s original studies were conducted with only US pps (most fo them were white and middle class)
replications in different countries produced different results. E.g asch-type experiments in collectivist culture found higher rates of conformity than the original studies in the US, and individualist culture
suggests that understanding of topics such as social influence should only be applied to individualistic cultures

cultural psychology - study of how people shape and are shaped by their their cultural experience (COHEN)
emerging field in psychology - incorporates work from researcher form other disciplines e.g anthology and sociology. cultural psychologist strive to avoid ethnocentric assumptions by taking an emic approach and conducting research form inside a culture, alongside local researchers using culturally base techniques
cross-cultural research focuses on just two cultures instead of larger scale studies w/ maybe 8 or more countries or cultures.
modern psychologists are mindful of the dangers of culture bias and are taking steps to avoid it
