Sex
What we are assigned at birth based on biology
Gender
The sex in which people identify as, male female or non binary

A binary perspective which incourages people to identify with their gender

Misrepresents people’s behaviour as it suggests there’s no difference

If a person holds stereotyped views the only notice info which conforms to this

It contains our knowledge on gender

The fixed views people have of men and women’s roles
Gender priming
More time spent with the same gender effects self identity as they make a judgement about how close they fit to the gender
Gender role pressue
Someone feels social pressure to conform to the norms of gender roles (NSI) or how someone’s meant to behave (ISI)
Cultural bias
Behaviour which isn’t traditional is rejected
Conformity
Peer groups give pressure to conform
Operant conditioning
Parents praise children when they behave in ways which are appropriate to their gender
Media
They reinforce children’s behaviour by modelling it with someone they identify with (role model) and seeing the consequences of not doing this
Testosterone
It gives men masculine features
Oestrogen
Develops the female reproductive system
