Behaviourist and social learning Flashcards
Assumption one
Behaviour is a learned response from environmental stimuli
Assumption two
Behaviour can be learned from observation and imitation
Strength
Contributed to many useful techniques which have benefitted society
Weakness
Human behaviour can not always be explained using simple stimuli
Classical conditioning
A neutral stimulus is associated with an unconditioned stimulus so a new response is learnt
Conditioned response
The response produced by the conditioned stimulus on its own
Conditioned stimulus
A stimulus that only produces the desired response after being paired with the ucs
Neutral stimulus
A stimulus that doesn’t produce the desired response
Unconditioned response
An unlearned response to an unconditioned stimulus
Unconditioned stimulus
Any stimulus that produces a response without learning taking place
Operant conditioning
A form of learning in which behaviour is shaped and maintained by its consequences
Positive reinforcement
Behaviour is followed by something pleasant
Negative reinforcement
Behaviour is followed by removing something unpleasant
Positive punishment
Behaviour is followed by something unpleasant
Negative punishment
Behaviour is followed by removing something pleasant
