Anatomy
study of the structure of living things
Pathology
the study of diseases, figuring out what causes them, how they develop, and what happens when things go wrong in the body
Clinical pathology
a specific study within the realm of pathology that looks at diseases through lab tests (blood tests, urine tests, etc)
Pathogenesis
the understanding of how diseases start and progress thru the body
Health
feeling good physically, mentally and socially
Illness
not feeling well, sickness, mentally unwell
Disease
a sickness that is measurable and objectively wrong
Acute illness
sudden sickness that doesn’t last too long
Sub-acute illness
a sickness that seems to drag on
Chronic illness
a sickness / unwellness that lasts for a while or forever
Homeostasis
your body’s state of equilibrium
general adaptation syndrome
how your body reacts to stress and how it goes thru different stages to cope with it
Etiology
the study of the causes of diseases
Diagnosis
identifying what disease / illness you have based on tests and symptoms
Prognosis
a prediction of how your illness may progress / the future of your health
Complication
when something else comes up and makes your current health issue more complicated
Sequelae
long term effects or consequences after an injury / illness
Clinical manifestations
signs and symptoms that doctors use to determine what’s wrong with you
Signs
measurable / visible things that can be noticed about your health
Symptoms
how you feel (fatigue, pain, etc)
Epidemiology
studying how diseases spread and why they happen in certain groups of people
Idiopathic
when doctors don’t know the cause of a disease
Iatrogenic
when a medical treatment causes another health problem on accident
Congenital
health issue you’re born with
