GCSE Energy Changes And Rates Of Reaction Flashcards
What are the particles in a solid like?
Close together, in a regular pattern and they vibrate on the spot.
What are the particles in a liquid like?
Close together, random and they move around each other.
What are the particles in a gas like?
Far apart, random and they move quickly in random directions.
When you heat up a solid into a liquid and heat up a liquid to a gas what happens to the amount of energy?
The amount of energy increases.
When you cool down a gas into a liquid and cool down a liquid to a solid what happens to the amount of energy?
The amount of energy decreases.
What happens in exothermic reactions?
Energy is given out to the surroundings and the temperature increases.
What happens in endothermic reactions?
Energy is taken in from the surroundings and the temperature decreases.
