Q

What does it mean if an enzyme is denatured?

A

If an enzyme has become denatured then it has passed its optimum reaction temperature. This high temperature causes the chain of amino acid to unravel (denature) consequently changing the shape of the active site making it ineffective as a catalyst.

Q

What is a protein?

A

proteins are large molecules composed of one or more LONG CHAINS OF AMINO ACIDS and are an essential part of all living organisms, especially as structural components of body tissues such as muscle, hair, etc., and as enzymes and antibodies.
