GB Organ Fxn
- Stores bile and excrete it to the intestines to aid digestion
- Maintains the free flow of qi together with the LV
- Rules courage, decision-making and judgment
- Controls the sinews
LV – provides the blood to the sinew for nourishment
GB – provides the Qi to the sinew for proper movement and agility - Influences the quality and length of sleep- If GB def. waking up early in the morning and be unable to fall
asleep again (Spiritual Axis ch. 43)
GB organ pathology
- Damp-heat in the LV/GB
- Hypochondriac distension and pain
- Bitter taste in the mouth
- Poor appetite
- Nausea, vomiting
- Abdominal distension
- Scanty and yellow urine
- Jaundice
- fever
T – sticky, yellow coating P – wiry and rapid - GB Def
- Dizziness
- Blurred vision
- Nervousness
- Timidity
- Propensity to being easily startled
- Lack of courage and initiative
- Sighing
T – pale or normal P - weak
GB Channel Fxn/Inxn
Disorder of the eyes (especially due to wind-heat or LV/GB heat)
Disorder of the ears (especially due to wind-heat or LV/GB heat)
Headaches (especially one-sided headaches affecting the temple region)
Disorders of the LV
– LV qi stagnation, LV fire, LV yang rising and LV wind affecting the course of
the GB channel (head, ears, eyes, chest , breast, lateral costal region) Phlegm disorders, scrofula and nodules
Clears damp-heat from the GB organ
Clears pathogenic factors from shaoyang level
Disorders of the spirit and ethereal soul (Hun)

0.5 cun lateral to the outer canthus in the depression on the lateral side of the orbit
transverse insertion posteriorly 0.2 – 0.3 cun, or extend to connect with Tai yang
note: according to several modern texts, this point is contra- indicated to moxibustion

1- Removes obstructions, alleves pain
(jaw, tooth, temporal, facial, wind-stroke)
2- Benefit ears, exp ext Wind, clear heat
(local point for ear issues caused by LV YR, Fire, W-H)

anterior to the intertragic notch at the posterior border of the condyloid procesess of the mandible Locate with the mouth open.
slightly posterior insertion 0.5 – 1.0 cun. Needle with the mouth wide open. The patient may close the mouth after insertion.

1- Elim. W and benefit ear
2- Activates chan, alleve pain
GB 3 L&N
in the front of the ear on the upper border of the zygomatic arch in the depression directly above ST 7
perpendicularly 0.3 – 0.5 cun.
caution: Deep needling is contraindicated traditionally.
