Peptic ulcer
When the stomach wall is damaged due to the acid it contains.
most ulcers relapse without specific therapy.
Etiology + peptic ulcer
Multifactorial (genetic + environment)
- genetic: runs in family, particularly among type 0 blood.
- environment: bacterial agent, cigarette smoking, skipping breakfast, disturbance of circadian rhythms, high alcohol consumption

Anxiety disorders are associated with significantly increased prevalence of physician-diagnosed ulcer among adults
Confounding variables between ulcer and stress
SES: poverty is an obvious source of stress
Medical illness: painful medical conditions such as headache common source of distress that could indirectly cause ulcer
Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD)
Refers to Ulcerative colitis and chron´s disease
Chrons disease
Can involve the whole digestive system (from gum to gut)
Symptom: pain, obstruction, malnutrition
Ulcerative colitis
Involves only the large intestine
Symptom: bloody diarrhea
Primary and secondary control enhancement therapy-physical illnesses (PASCET-PI)
focuses on teaching skills to improve cognitions and behaviors related to IBD.
Study: showed significantly greater improvement in children post treatment than the comparison group. so, it may be an efficient intervention.
