A
  • antacids buffer stomach acids
  • alginates increase viscosity of stomach contents
  • reduce reflux of stomach acid into oesophagus
  • after reacting with stomach acid they form a floating raft which separates gastric contents from gastro oesophaegeal junction to prevent mucosal damage
