Causes of Type A Gastritis (Acute)
• AUTOIMMUNE (own immune system produces antibodies to fight the parietal cells of the stomach even the intrinsic factors)
• Ingestion of contaminated food with microorganisms (Salmonella typhosa, E. coli, Campylobacter jejuni)
• irritating foods (acidic, fatty, spicy, fried foods) or too highly seasoned (maalat)
• Overuse of aspirin or NSAIDs, Digitalis, Chemo drugs, Steroids (could erode the mucosal lining of the stomach)
• excessive alcohol intake
Type B gastritis
•is caused by benign or malignant ulcers or by the bacteria gram-negative bacteria Helicobacter pylori
• Person ingests uncooked or raw meat = the number of H.pylori increases
• Repeated infection and corrosion
OTHER CAUSES OF GASTRITIS
-cigarette smoking
-GERD reflux.

-Belching and Dyspepsia
-Anorexia

-Heartburn after eating
-Intolerance to spicy and fatty foods
-Vitamin B12 deficiency
-Water Brash
Triple therapy (Drugs) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection
A- Amoxicillin (Amoxil)
C- Clarithromycin (Biaxin)
E- Eseprazole (Nexium)
Quadruple therapy (Drugs) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection
- B- Bismuth Subsalicylate
E- Esomeprazole (Nexium)
M- Metronidazole ( Flagyl)
T- Tetracycline

Intervention for gastritis
-GI rest: NPO G-12 hrs - Clear liquid - Heavier Liquid - Solid Foods
-Bland diet for both acute and chronic
-Provide info in importance of Vit. B12 injections
-When oral food is withheld, 3L IV fluids (preferably D5W) to inc. Energy
-Instruct to take prescribely meds (antacids and antibiotics)
-Instruct to avoid highly corrosive foods
Result of Alcohol and Flagyl
Disulfiram like reactions
Sx of Disulfirams like reactions
Headache
SOB
Vertigo
B. Vision
Weakness
