H.pylori infection
What is the most common cause of erosive gastritis?
NSAIDs or alcohol
What are the symptoms of gastritis?
Dyspepsia Abdominal discomfort Nausea and vomiting Anorexia May be asymptomatic
What investigations should be conducted for gastritis?
H.pylori testing - urea breath test Faecal antigen testing FBC Endoscopy in some patients Vit V12, intrinsic factor and parietal cell antibodies if suspecting autoimmune gastritis
How is h.pylori gastritis treated?
Eradication of h.pylori with triple therapy:
PPI
Clarithromycin
Amoxicillin / metronidazole
How is erosive gastritis treated?
PPIs or H2RB
Removal of causative agent (NSAID, alcohol)
How is autoimmune gastritis treated?
Cyanocobalamin
What is pglemonous gastritis and how is it treated?
Uncommon form of gastritis caused by infection (s.aureus, step, e.coli, enterobacter).
It requires ICU admission, supportive care and broad-spectrum antibiotics
What are the potential complications of gastritis?
Achlorhydria Vitamin B12 deficiency Peptic ulcer disease Gastric carcinoma Gastric lymphoma
