Q

how do they work

A

what usually happens:

  • either muscarinic or histamine (H2) receptors are activated
  • this activates proton pumps, increasing acid secretion into the stomach lumen = gastric ulcers

what the drug does
- the activation then of PGE2 receptors inhibits the proton pump, decreasing acid secretion = no stomach lumen = no ulcers
