Poorly differentiated tumours which diffusely infiltrate the stomach wall- poor prognosis

- H. Pylori
- Male
- Increased age
- Diet and lifestyle
Symptoms of gastric cancer (5)
- Weight loss (present in 60%)
- Epigastric pain is a late sign
- Nausea and anorexia
- Vomiting, dyspepsia and dysphagia
- Upper GI bleeding
- Symptoms of anaemia
Signs of gastric cancer (4)
- Epigastric mass
- Hepatomegaly/ jaundice/ ascites
- Virchow’s node
- Acanthosis nIGRICANS
What investigations are used to make a diagnosis of gastric cancer
Gastroscopy and biopsy
What is the curative surgery used for gastric cancer
Total gastrectomy and lymphadenectomy
What is the palliative surgery used for gastric cancer
Subtotal gastrectomy
