Gass exchange Flashcards
What is Respiration?
Process in living things in which oxygen is used to release the energy from food.
Glucose + Oxygen →Carbon Dioxide + Water (+energy)
What is Aerobic Respiration?
Respiration that requires oxygen.
What is Anaerobic Respiration?
Respiration without oxygen.
What is Lactic Acid?
A chemical produced during anaerobic respiration.
What is Mitochondria?
Structures in the cytoplasm of all cells where aerobic respiration takes place.
What is Oxegen debt?
Tiny air sacs in the lungs, where gas is exchanged during breathing.
What is Alveoli?
Tiny air sacs in the lungs, where gas is exchanged during breathing.
What is Bronchi?
Branches off the trachea distribute air to both lungs.
What is Bronchiolie?
Branches of the bronchi, that distribute the inhaled air throughout all of the lungs.
What is a Diaphram?
Expands and moves down so lungs have room to fill with air –inhalation. Contracts and moves upwards to force air out of the lungs (exhalation).
What are the Lungs?
Soft organ that inflates to draw in oxygenated air and deflates to expel air.
What is the Trachea?
Windpipe, air passes between the mouth and lungs.
