Gas Laws Flashcards
The law of combining gas volumes
At constant temperature and pressure, the volume of gases in a chemical reaction react in simple whole number ratios
The two Avogadro’s law
volume is proportional to mole
1. At the same temperature and pressure, equal volume of gases contain equal number of molecules.
2. The volume of a gas is directly proportional to the number of gas moles at a constant temperature and pressure.
n1/v1=n2/v2
Boyle’s law
pressure is inversely proportional to volume
For a given quantity of gas at a constant temperature, the pressure of the gas is inversely proportional to its volume.
P1V1=P2V2
Charles law
volume is proportional to temperature
For a given quantity of gas at a constant pressure, the volume of the gas is directly proportional to its temperature.
V1/T1=V2/T2
Gay-Lussac’s Law
pressure is proportional to temperature
For a given quantity of gas at a constant volume, the pressure of the gas is directly proportional to its temperature.
P1/T1=P2/T2
What is the formula for the ideal gas law
PV = nRT
where R = 8.314
