Q

What is the counter current system?

A

Blood flow is at the opposite direction to water flow. This means that the concentration gradient is steep so as much oxygen as possible diffuse into the blood.

Q

How do bony fish ventilate?

A

Open thier mouth to lover the floor of bucca cavity to increase volume and decrease pressure. Water is sucked into the cavity. The fish mouth closes to raise buccaneers cavity floor decreasing volume and increasing pressure. Water is forced out and across gill filaments. Increased pressure causes operculum to open along g water to leave the gills.
