Gas Chromo. Flashcards
Gasssseeed
1
Q
How it separates chemicals
A
Uses a liquid stationary phase separation is due to the compound’s solubility in the liquid phase.
(high solubility=high retention time)
2
Q
Retention time
A
time it takes for a compound to travel from the input valve to the detector.
- Retention times can be used to determine a specific compound –> compare RT to a database.
3
Q
Q How could a Relative peak area against conc. graph be obtained in Gas Chromo.
CALLIBRATION!!
A
- Make up a set of standard solutions with standard concentrations
- Run them through a gas chromatography machine
- Area under each peak is proportional to the known solution. (area under each peak in Adsorption against retention time graph)
- Plot peak area- concentration graph
