Gallium Flashcards
how is gallium-67 citrate made
cyclotron produced by bombarding Zn 68 with protons
4 energies of Ga-67
93 keV, 184 keV, 296 keV, 394 keV
how does GA-67 act in body
acts like iron and binds to variety of plasma proteins (transferrin receptors would bind to Ga-67)
clinical indications
1- tumor localilization- lymphoma
2- inflammatory processes- sarcoidosis
3- infection- osteomyelitis
4- FUO
pt prep
none
Ga is insoluble so we have to add what
insoluble ion so add citrate (-3 ion) into resulting complex to become neutral solution for injection
dose
10 mCi
collimator
medium
imaging times for inflammation or infection
delay-48-72 hr
imaging times for tumor
delays on day 3 and 5
imaging times for Bone/Ga
delays 48-72 hrs
earlier delays when looking at spine
biodistribution
bone, bone marrow, live, genitourinary, GI tract, salivary glands and lacrimal glands
spine images either pos or neg
persistent renal activity may indicate
iron overload, lymphoma, chemo drugs, hepatic failure, vasculitis
diffused colon activity
inflammatory conditions, ulcerative colitis, psuedomembrane colitis
decr liver uptake
severe liver disease, iron overload, recent chemo
