Pathology: Symptoms are all due to Damp Heat. Dampness interferes with the smooth flow of Liver Qi, stagnation of which causes distension and pain. Nausea and vomiting are caused by Dampness obstructing the Middle Burner and preventing Stomach Qi from descending. Stools will be loose if Dampness predominates and there will be constipation if Heat predominates. Dampness may reach the head via the GB channel causing a dull headache. Damp and Heat may invade the urinary system, via the Liver channel, causing urinary symptoms.
