What is direct traffic?
If there’s no referral or attribution information, the traffic gets classified as direct:
1) Often, this can be attributed to a website visitor coming from an unknown or unidentified source.
2) Visitors who bypass search engines, social media, or other external sources to get to the website.
3) Website visits not attributed to a specific source (e.g. a user clicks a link in a Facebook ad that doesn’t include tracking parameters.)
What causes direct traffic in Google Analytics?
1) Autofill, manual address entry or bookmarks
2) Missing or broken tracking code
3) Non-web documents (PDF, Word)
4) HTTP to HTTPs
5) Dark social (Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp)
6) Depending on your email marketing tool, traffic from email marketing campaigns.
What is the hierarchy in GA4?
User –> Sessions –> Events
What does it mean that GA4 is event-based?
