Further Additional Physics Flashcards
What is the far point?
The furthest distance a person can comfortably focus on.
What is refraction?
Caused when waves change direction as they enter a different medium. Caused by change in density from one medium to another - this changes speed.
What is the near point?
The closest distance that the eye can focus on. The near point is aprox 25cm
What are x-rays?
High frequency, short wave length electromagnetic wave
What’s a CT scan?
Computerised axial Tomography, high resolution images of soft and Hard tissue
What is ultrasound?
A higher frequency sound we can’t hear
What is partial reflection?
When a wave passes through one medium into another, some of the wave is reflected off the boundary between the two media, and some is transmitted
How are ultrasounds used in medicine?
Diagnose heart problems, investigating blood flow in organs, check fetal development, get rid of kidney stones
What’s a converging lense?
It’s convex, bulges out wards (long sited)
What’s a diverging lense?
It’s concave, caves inwards (short sited)
What is a moment?
Turning effect of a force
What a hydraulic system?
Used as force multipliers, uses. Small force to produce a big force. Use liquid and cross-sectional areas.
What’s centripetal force?
Force that keeps something moving in a circle
What’s a magnetic field?
A region where magnetic materials and also wires carrying currents experience a force acting on them
What’s a solenoid?
Magnetic field inside of a coil
