fever>3 weeks, >38.3, no definitive dx after 1 week inpatient/3 week outpatient
bacterial infections common in FUO?
cholangitis, abscess, brucellosis endocarditis, TB, Histo, malaria, CMV, HIV
rheumatological causes of fever?
reiter, still, lupus, temporal arteritis
common colonizers of tooth surfaces
streptococcus sanguinis, streptococcus mutans, streptococcus mitus, actinomyces viscosus
strongly associated with dental caries?
streptococcus mutans
what is a periapical abscess?
abscess at the root of the tooth
what is the basic structure of a tooth?
dental, enamel pulp, then root
what is the sign of puplitis?
transient sensitivity to heat/cold/percussion., leading to pain with heat, resolves with cold
where do periapical abscesses show up?
mandible - lingual aspect of teh molars, maxilla - through the buccal aspect
what are healthy microbes of normal gingival tissue?
streptococcus oralis, streptococcus sanguinis, actinomyces
what microbes common in gingivitis?
gram negative anaerobic rods like prevotella intermedia, peptostreptococcus, capnocytophagia
