What do Catholics believe about funerals?
- It is a sacrament
- They are sprinkled with holy water as a reminder of the baptism
- There will be mass (bread and wine)
- The coffin will be buried or cremated, burial is however preferred
- A priest will talk about he importance of the afterlife
- Sins will be forgiven by Christ
- Reminder of Jesus’ resurrection
What do Protestants believe about funerals?
- Simple services are hosted
- Bible readings
- Prayers to ask for forgiveness of the person who has died
- Hymns
- Pastor or priest talks about importance for the afterlife
- Buried or cremated
- Usually at the burial or cremation site
What do Muslims believe about funerals?
- The Shahadah is whispered into their ear just like it was at birth
- emphasises the belief that @death we return to our creator
- A simple white shroud is wrapped around the body, it shows equality before Allah
- The body is normally buried, it should remain whole for judgement day
- The site of the grave is usually slightly raised and there is no gravestone
- Prayers to emphasise the greatness of God
What do Humanists believe about funerals?
- The funeral can be held anywhere, a place of worship holds no significance
- Readings or songs are chosen to reflect the persons interests
- No reflection for an afterlife
- No mention of God or sacred texts
