fundamental particles Flashcards
what is a lepton
leptons are elementary particles that can be found on there own
what is a quark
all composite matter particles are made of a combination of quarks. quarks are fractionally charged and effected by the fundamental forces. they are also never found in isolation always in pairs of two or three
what fundamental force effects quarks
quarks interact via the strong nuclear force
what fundamental force effects leptons
the weak nuclear force acts upon leptons
what is a hadron
a hadron is made up of quarks and interact via gluons that mediate strong nuclear force
what is the diffrence between a baryon and a meson
a meson is made up of an anti-quark and a quark.
Baryons are made up of any three combinations of quarks and anti baryons of any three anti quark
what are the requirements of a baryon number
-all particles that are baryon have a baryon number of +1
-all antibaryons have a baryon number of -1
-all other particles have a baryon number of 0
what are the requirements for a lepton number
-all leptons have a lepton number of +1
-all anti-leptons have a number of -1
-all other particles have a number of 0
name the three common leptons and there charge, lepton number an baryon number
name two common baryons and there quark content and charge.
name one common meson and quark content
what effect does a neutrino have on particles
they have a charge of zero but keep there baryon and lepton numbers
what effect does a neutrino have on particles
they have a charge of zero but keep there baryon and lepton numbers
name the three anti leptons and what effect this has on there charge and lepton number
