Fundamental forces Flashcards
Four types of fundamental forces
Strong interactions, weak interactions, electromagnetism and gravity
How do these forces arise
Due to the exchange of bosons - force mediating particles
How do forces exist between fermions?
A fermion will produce a boson, which is then taken up by another fermion
Electromagnetism and it’s respective boson
Interactions between particles with electric or magnetic properties.
Boson for electromagnetism is photon
Gravity and its respective boson
Interactions between objects of mass.
Boson for gravity is graviton
Strong interaction and it’s respective boson
Interactions between hadrons in the nucleus and the quarks within the hadrons.
Boson for strong interactions is gluon
Weak interaction and it’s respective boson
Beta decay in the nucleus
Boson for weak interaction is W and Z bosons
Laws of conservation for these forces
All of the forces obey the conservation laws for energy, angular momentum and charge.
