A
- Capacity to feel a wide range of feelings deeply
- The capacity to expect appropriate entitlement
A narcissistic person doesn’t have appropriate entitlement; a 5 year old is entitled to hugs - Capacity for self-activation and assertion
Kids with ADHD have difficulty with self activation; people who can’t assert themselves confuse being aggressive with being assertive, so when they assert themselves they feel guilty - Acknowledgement of self-esteem
Allows person to identify and acknowledge and effectively cope with a problem in a positive way; must be able to remind themselves with themselves and their ability
Self-esteem comes as a byproduct of watching yourself cope; when you stand up to hardship and watch yourself cope, self-esteem in your own eyes goes up, the more you back down and are afraid then your self-esteem goes down

- Ability to make and stick to commitments
Sometimes the anxiety makes the person not want to do it - Creativity
Not rigid and allow themselves freedom to explore and take risks
With personality disorders, no flexibility with self - Capacity for Intimacy
Is the student a loner? Trusting enough? Paranoid? Do they have social skills? - Ability to be alone
Find out if the kid sleeps in a parents’ bed (consider culture) - Continuity of self
Capacity to recognize and acknowledge that you each have a core that persists through space and time. Confident that the eye of one experience is continuous with the eye of other experiences
Victim dissociation helps them cope but dissociation is bad
