Ethnic inequalities are the byproduct of cultural factors
There being disparities between non-white minority groups in terms of outcomes and standards of living
Asian groups are more likely to be self - employed, East African Sikhs often described as a strong ‘spirit of enterprise’ and supportive family networks
Experiences of colonialism and slavery on Afro-Caribbean community groups were starting from different place than other minority groups

Modood et al

A

3 in 5 Bangladeshi women, half of Pakistani women living in Britain do not speak English, nothing discriminatory about not being able to offer high status occupations to individuals not being able to speak the language of the host nation.
Argued that ethnic minorities’ lower position in society is not due to racism or structural discrimination, but due to the lack of skills and values they can provide to the most highly rewarded sectors in society.
Link back to Patterson and Parsons - minorities positions can improve over time.
