Q

NEUROPLASTICITY MODEL

A
  • Changes in the functional, chemical and structural properties of primary sensory neurons, neurons in the dorsal horn and brain are responsible for dynamic switching in states of the somatosensory system. The body’s ability to do things is dependent on sensory feedback from the environment around and inside of us.
  • This neuronal modifiability or plasticity represents an essential aspect of state dependency of sensory perception. SO, we need a healthy well functioning sensory system to keep relaying back information to the brain.

Q

HYPERMOBILITY VS STABILITY

A

Hypermobility
- Multiple joints involved
- Fatigue
- Chronic pain for 3 months +
- Recurring episodes of pain in the same area
- Exercise can make pain better but can also make the pain worse
- Other visceral symptoms
Instability
- Single joints involved
- Pain may self-resolve in days
- No visceral symptoms

Q

HYPERMOBILITY SPECTRUM

A

Condition in which most of an individual’s synovial Jts move beyond normal limits
Connective tissue disorder
Beighton’s scale- bend 5th fingers back, touch toes, thumb to wrist, elbow extension, knee extension (0-3 is normal, 4-9 is generalised hyper mobility)
Subjective questionnaire

Inc headaches and fatigue, difficulty sitting still- constant movement to readjust, prone to heart palpitations, mitrovalve collapsing/dysfunction
Need to keep strong and fit- need to do gradual build up, cycling is beneficial
