functional groups Flashcards
1
Q
amine functional group
A
NH2
2
Q
alkane functional group
A
single bond
3
Q
carboxylic acid functional group
A
OOH (don’t number)
4
Q
alcohol functional group
A
OH
5
Q
alkyne functional group
A
triple bond
6
Q
haloalkane functional group
A
halides - bromine, chlorine, iodine, fluorine
7
Q
requirements for a cis-trans isomer
A
- can only occur due to carbon=carbon double bonds not rotating
- each carbon on the double bond must have two different groups attached
Cis isomers have the same groups on the same side of the molecule whereas trans are on opposite sides —> different physical properties but the same chemical
- same molecular and sequence of atoms but different arrangements in space (3D)
8
Q
constitutional isomer
A
A constitutional (structural) isomer has the same molecular formula, but a different arrangement of atoms / different structural formula.
