Functional Anatomy Of Muscles Flashcards
Agonist
The primary muscles providing force for a movement
Synergists
Muscles that assist agonists to produce a movement
Stabilizer
Muscles that contract isometrically to stabilize the trunk & joints as the body moves
Feed- Forward Activation
When a muscle is automatically activated in anticipation of a movement
Antagonists
Muscles on the opposite side of a joint that are in direct opposition of agonist muscles
Closed- Chain Movements
Distal segments (hands/feet) are fixed & remain in contact with a stationary surface. Involve applying force into an immovable object
Open- Chain Movements
Distal segments (hands/feet) are not fixed, free to move. Involve the ability to freely move the distal segments
