Functional anatomy of distal hind Flashcards
1
Q
What is in between the femur, tibia joint?
A
MENISCUS
- lateral and medial
- Wedge shaped
- = thicker at abaxial border (outer)
- attached to tibial condyles
2
Q
What are and what are the functions of menisci?
A
They’re C shaped cartilage wedges in the femoro tibial joint
1. Functions:
stabilise joint
Cushioning
Proprioception - contain nerve endings so painful if damaged
3
Q
What ligaments are associated with the menisci?
A
- Menisco-tibial ligament
- Transverse ligament
- Menisco femoral ligament
4
Q
Describe ligaments in menisci
A
- Menisco-tibial ligament:
a) from meniscus to intercondylar eminence on tibia
b) hold menisci onto tibia - Transverse ligament
a) between the 2 cranial aspects of menisci = stabilise, holding them together - Menisco femoral ligament
a) On lateral meniscus to intercondylar fossa of femur
b) Hold femur onto menisci
5
Q
What ligaments support the stifle joint?
A
- collateral ligaments
- Cruciate ligaments
- Cranial cruciate ligament: intercondylar eminence = medial aspect lateral condyle
- Caudal cruciate ligament: Intercondylar eminence to intercondylar fossa
6
Q
Collateral ligaments of stifle joint
A
- Medial epicondyle femur - tibia
2. lateral epicondylar femur to fibula and tibia
7
Q
Patellar ligament
A
- Insert of quad and sartorius on tibial tuberosity
8
Q
Stifle movement and patella
A
- Patella pulled proximally = extension
- Patella pulled distally = flexion
- P location = trochlear groove of femur
9
Q
What type of joint is the stifle?
A
- Synovial
10
Q
Talk about the synovial joint
A
- 3 compartments
- Femoro patellar
- Medial femoro tibial
- Lateral femoro tibia
11
Q
Unique about cat patella adn fabella
A
- pointed
- medial fabella often not mineralised
- LAteral fab adn popliteal seasmoid usually visible
