How to carry out occlusal reduction?
Reduce in 3 planes
Place tip of bur in central fossa then make depth grooves (place buccal and lingual)
Joint depth grooves - follow morphology
Prep should be in dentine
What should be completed after occlusal reduction?
Functional cusp reduction
How should the buccal wall be prepared?
Use chamfer bur
Reduce wall by 1mm - 2 planes
Watch tip for even reduction - don’t want V shaped margins
How should lingual aspect be prepared?
Reduce by 1mm
Create 5-10 degree taper with buccal wall
How to carry out mesial/ distal reduction?
Paint brush strokes to break through contact - allows adequate thickness of material
How to complete FGC prep?
Use TC bur to refine margin and polish
Well defined margins aid technician in lab
How would proceed is caries present?
Margins must be on sound tissue
Extend margin further down- must maintain chamfer
If prep prepared into furcation - will have clover shape
