Ceramic Veneer Flashcards
Where should a bevel be placed?
On incisal edge
45 degree angle to long axis of tooth
Not aiming to shorten tooth
How should the labial surface by prepared initially?
Depth dimples should be placed using round bur
These should be 0.4-0.5mm deep (stay within the enamel)
How many planes does labial surface have?
2 planes: cervical and incisal
How to reduce labial surface?
Use round ended tapered bur e.g 501- create smooth chamfer at periphery
Reduce in two planes until dimples have been reduced evenly
Why is a rounded chamfer margin advantageous?
Reduce stress at periphery
How should the contacts be prepared?
On labial surface reduce and take margin to contact points but do not break
However margins need to be tucked into embrasure (need to take more palatal)
Why do margins need to be tucked?
Would see junction between veneer and tooth
How should a veneer prep be temporised?
Temporary made via bulk placement of composite using spot etch technique
DO NOT USE DENTINE BONDING AGENT
How can temporary veneer preps be removed?
As only spot etched - can use excavator at margin to flick temp off
If composite remains at spot etch can use bur to plane away
