High- 138’ 2”
Low- 137’ 6”
Low-Low- 137’
What happens if the recycle monitor pump trips during a SFP fill?
We need to shut the valve to prevent losing level in the SFP
What concerns do we have when filling the SFP?
At 138’ 3” we could overflow to the tray elevator motor
At 138’ 2” we could flood the in-core instrument tubing
What is the minimum canal level for an irradiated fuel movement inside of containment?
137’ 9”
What are some T.S’s associated with the SFP?
- boron concentration 2150 ppm (4000-4400 ppm as a borated water source)
- 23 feet over irradiated fuel assy’s (137’ 4”)
Where can we get makeup for the SFP from?
LRS RMT
CST
RWT
RMWT
What cools the SFP HX?
NCW
What is the backup source of cooling for the SFP HX?
Essential Cooling Water
For the SFP Cooling and cleanup system where does the suction line and discharge line’s go into the spent fuel pool at?
The suction line takes a suction off of the top part of the SFP while the discharge line delivers water into the bottom of the pool assisting in natural convection cooling.
How far must water level be kept over the top of irradiated fuel in the SFP?
23 feet (137’ 4”)
What is the SFP temperature high and hi-hi alarms in the control room?
High- 125 degrees F
Hi-Hi- 145 degrees F
What are the normal operating conditions for the PC cooling pumps?
50 psig pump discharge pressure
95-100 degrees F SFP Temp
2000 gpm flow rate with one pump running
What are the normal operating conditions for the PC cleanup pumps?
80-85 psig
95-100 degrees F SFP temp
150 gpm flow rate with one pump running
What is the power source for the PC Cooling pumps?
PG
What is the power source for the PC cleanup pumps?
NH
During high heat load periods or refueling; what system can be used to help carry the SFP load?
The Safety injection system through the use of the shutdown heat exchanger
When will the control room get a hi or low pressure alarm for the fuel pool cleanup pump?
HI- 95 psig
Low- 67 psig
When will the control room get a hi or low pressure alarm for the fuel pool cooling pumps?
Hi- 60 psig
Low- 45 psig
What do we want to maintain SFP temperature at?
95-100 degrees F
On our area 3 logs, when do we notify the control room of a higher then normal SFP temperature?
115 degrees F
The N2 bottles for the cask pit/decon area should be reported as being low at what pressure?
300 psig
Describe the spent fuel pool
- stainless steel lined
- concrete walled
- 340,000 gallons (at 38’) about 45% of RWT
Where can we get makeup to the SFP?
- RWT
- LRS/RMT
- CST
- RMWT
- In emergency FP or DW via hoses
How are the fuel assemblies arranged in the SFP?
Checkerboard array in order to preclude inadvertent criticality
What will automatically stop the PC cooling pumps?
A load shed signal or Electrical protection trip
After a load shed signal; how does the PC cooling pumps restart?
Must be manually restarted after a load shed once power has been restored
How is the fuel transfer tube isolated when not in use?
PCN-V118 spent fuel pool side
Quick operating closure device- containment blg side
What advantage does the QOCD give us over a flange?
The QOCD can be removed or installed remotely from the operating floor so no personnel are required to enter the refuel cavity
Where are the valves we operate when transferring water from the CST to the SFP?
- One in CST pump house
- One on 120’ FB
- Transferred by CT transfer pump
What pump do we use to fill the SFP with the RWT?
BAMP
What are some things to know about the underwater lights in the SFP?
They are cooled by the water. If level goes down and the lights are exposed they could overheat/burnout.
What is the purpose of the siphon breakers in the SFP?
Limit SFP drain down in the event that a line breaks
Explain the Fuel Transfer tube.
- 36” stainless steel tube
- Connects Spent Fuel pool and Refuel pool
Explain the QOCD?
Quick operating closure device
- Class boundary between fuel building and containment
- Reduced time/dose associated with installing the blind flange.
- Qperated (remove/installed) from the operating deck
Where is the fuel pool cleanup pumps suction anti-siphon hole?
133’
Where is the fuel pool cleanup pumps discharge anti-siphon hole?
132’ 6”
Where is the BAMP suction anti-siphon hole?
133’ 6”
What is the maximum number of fuel assy’s in the SFP?
1205
What are the class/non-class gate seals?
Decon pit-SFP Class
Decon pit- Cask pit Class
SFP - transfer canal Non Class
What is the difference between the Class and non-class gate seals in the SFP area.
- Class seals are provided IA and have N2 backup lined up automatically.
- Non-class seals are provided IA and have N2 backup. It is required to be manually aligned when IA is lost.
What do AO’s do during cask loading operations?
Fill and drain the cask loading pit
